A screen-time reset without an app

Most screen-time tools are more screen: dashboards, streaks, one more thing to check. This page is the opposite — one principle and a small set of calm offline activities, with nothing to install and nothing tracking you.

The one principle

Every session ends in an offline action. Not a report, not a score — a window, a meal, a bird, one square foot of order. If a reset ends with you looking at a screen, it was not a reset.

Calm first 4-10 minutes Nothing to install

No dashboards, no streaks, no tracking

Screen-time apps meter the problem with the problem: another icon, another graph, another streak that turns a quiet evening into a score you can lose. Here there is no streak to protect and no chart to check. Your reflections stay in your browser, and nothing you write is sent anywhere.

What "wellbeing without an app" actually means

It means the exit is physical. A phone problem rarely has a phone-shaped solution — attention comes back through the hands, the window, the block outside, one slow meal. The activities below are small on purpose: minutes, not programs, and each one leaves you somewhere real when it ends.

The calm set

Pick one. Do it away from this page. If you want to keep proof, return with one private sentence.

One Window, Ten Breaths

Trade the scroll for a slower kind of input.

  1. Stand or sit at one window.
  2. Take ten slow breaths.
  3. On each exhale, find one thing that will still be there tomorrow.

Return question: What stayed still long enough for you to see it?

Sit in the Boredom

Boredom is just attention with nowhere to spend itself yet.

  1. Sit down with no phone, no book, no music.
  2. Do nothing for three full minutes.
  3. Let the first restless thought pass without acting on it.

Return question: What showed up once you ran out of things to check?

Restore One Square Foot

Pick one tiny area and treat it like a sacred ruin.

  1. Choose exactly one square foot of your room, desk, car, or kitchen.
  2. Clean only that square foot.
  3. Stop before it turns into a full productivity spiral.

Return question: What changed when one small part of your world became orderly?

Eat One Thing, Screen Off

Taste is a sense the feed can't fake.

  1. Take one snack or meal somewhere with no screen.
  2. Eat slowly enough to notice temperature, texture, and where it came from.
  3. Finish before you pick anything back up.

Return question: What did the food actually taste like when it had your attention?

Borrow the Sky

Look up until the scale changes.

  1. Step outside or look out a window.
  2. Watch the sky without naming the weather.
  3. Let one thought pass without following it.

Return question: What happened when you looked at something that did not need you?

Follow One Living Thing

Pick something alive and let it lead for a while.

  1. Find one bird, insect, squirrel, or stray cat.
  2. Watch only it until it leaves or hides.
  3. Notice one thing it did that had nothing to do with you.

Return question: What was it busy with before you looked, and after?

Sit in the Current

You do not have to talk to anyone. Just be where life moves.

  1. Take yourself somewhere life passes by: a porch, a bench, a window seat, a store.
  2. Leave the phone in your pocket and watch for one stranger taking care of something.
  3. Let yourself be one of the people somebody else might be noticing.

Return question: Who did you see taking care of something, and what was it?

A calm return can be ordinary

Example: "The window over the sink gets the last sun, and the plant leans into it." Nothing profound is required. Ordinary is the proof that you were actually there.

FAQ

Is this another screen-time app?

No. There is nothing to install, no account, and no dashboard. The activities are static text on this page, and the optional live engine runs in your browser without tracking what you write.

How can it work without measuring my screen time?

The principle does the work: every session ends in an offline action. You do not need a graph of the problem to walk to a window.

What if sitting still is the hard part?

Start with Sit in the Boredom at three minutes, or pick a hands-first reset from the stop-scrolling page instead. Restlessness passing through is the exercise, not a failure of it.
